THREE OLD MONK POEMS (267)
WHEN THE BIRD
When the bird
of the sun
sings, listen.
This is God
speaking,
the old monk said.

BECAUSE WE CANNOT
Because we cannot be gods,
we have been blessed with trees
which teach us all we need to know,
the old monk said.

IF THEY INVITE YOU
If they invite you
to eat with them,
determine first if
they are daughters
of the gods, or
are they human,
the old monk said.
Do not eat with
daughters of the gods,
lest they also want to
teach you how to fly.
~
