TEN OLD MONK POEMS (45)
THE END COMES
The end comes
when it all
begins again,
the old monk said.
~
IF YOU CAN'T
If you can't fly,
at least get
out of the way,
the old monk said.
~
SOMETIMES THE DARKNESS
Sometimes the darkness
helps you see,
the old monk said.
~
BE SWEETGRASS
Be sweetgrass
or be the wind,
the old monk told
his students.
~
WHEN THE STARS
When the stars
speak, listen
and take notes,
the old monk says.
~
DON'T WAIT
Don't wait
for the end
until the end,
the old monk advised.
~
PROMISE THEM
Promise them nothing
until they stop coming back,
the old monk advised.
~
I DON'T KNOW
I don't know
what to think
and still
the sun goes down,
the old monk
realized.
~
THAT'S RIGHT
That's right,
the old monk said,
anarchy
is not chaos.
~
WHEN THE SILENCE
When the silence
finally finds you,
don't speak to it,
the old monk says.
