TEN OLD MONK POEMS (43)
THE RAIN
The rain
lets itself go, yes,
the old monk said.
~
HOW MUCH DO YOU
How much do you
want to fly,
the wind asked
the old monk.
~
THIS IS NOT
This is not
the job I want,
it's the job I got,
so let's get
on with it,
the old monk said.
~
POEM WITH
"Poem with the First
Five Lines Ending
with T" -- would that
be a good title,
the old monk wondered.
~
WANTING / DOESN'T
Wanting
doesn't fly fast enough
to get you there,
the old monk told them.
~
IF YOU CAN
If you can learn it,
you can learn it again,
the hardest lesson,
the old monk says.
~
SOMETIMES / WORDS
Sometimes
words use each other
in interesting ways,
the old monk told the poet.
~
I WRITE
I write small and smaller
until there's nothing left to say,
the old monk admitted.
~
THE TASK
The task
is to accept
the task,
the old monk said.
~
HOW FAR UNTIL
How far until
I fall off
the mountain,
the old monk
always wonders.
