TEN OLD MONK POEMS (41)
YOU CARRY
You carry the water
and you only spill
enough to cool you,
the old monk said.
~
LET GO
Let go
being afraid to
let go,
the old monk said.
~
THE CAR DIDN'T
The car didn't know
it could fly,
the old monk told
the officer.
~
NOTHING IS
Nothing is
so elemental
as stone,
the old monk said
of the mountain.
~
YOU DON'T KNOW
You don't know
until you know --
it's like
learning to read,
OFF, then ON,
the old monk said.
~
THE DEAL
The deal you need to make
you don't usually
have the heart for,
the old monk said.
~
SO MANY FLIES
So many flies --
a dozen
wanted to land
where half
a dozen
couldn't,
the old monk said.
~
I'LL NEVER DO
I'll never do that
again,
the old monk said
for the last time.
~
SO THIS IS
So this is
what love
looks like,
the old monk said
to his bowl
of ice cream.
~
ALL THOSE THINGS
All those things
you don't want to do
cross them off your list,
see what's left,
the old monk said.
